Guntur Kaaram' connection with Tamil film \'Leo\'?
No doubt, the much-hyped film ‘Guntur Kaaram’ starring Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has been in the news for wrong reasons these days. Adding to their woes, a Tamil film industry source claims that the initial script of ‘Guntur Kaaram’ was altered since a top Tamil film producer found similarities with his upcoming movie ‘Leo’ starring Tamil superstar Vijay.
“Actually, Tamil film producer Lalith Kumar has bought the official remake rights of Hollywood film ‘A History of Violence’ for a hefty sum and started making the much-hyped film ‘Leo’ with Vijay and being directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. But when they got to know that ‘Guntur Kaaram’ is als loosely inspired by their action adventure, they urged Telugu makers to change it since they own the official rights of the movie. Telugu director Trivikram altered the script and came up with a new story to suit the larger-than-life image of Mahesh Babu,“ says the source.
Actually, Hollywood blockbuster ‘A History of Violence’ (2005) starring Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello and Ed Harris, revolves around a diner owner who becomes a local hero after he foils an attempted robbery bid but has to face his past enemies to protect his family. “Now, Vijay film is set in Kashmir, where he will be selling fruits before his bete noire Sanjay Dutt arrives to settle the scores with him,” adds the source, who claims that Tamil producer ensured removal of the content of Hollywood film on Youtube and digital platforms to offer something afresh for Tamil viewers across the world.
Earlier, actress Pooja Hedge and cinematographer Vinod bid farewell to the project, while ace composer Thaman was replaced and the film underwent a lot of re-shoots with new heroine Sreeleela.
No doubt, Trivikram Srinivas would have come up with a better script to score a winner with Mahesh to repeat the magic of ‘Athadu’, the actor-director’s due earlier blockbuster in 2005.
