After tasting success with ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, Kollywood star Vikram is returning to the two Telugu states with his upcoming film ‘Thangalan’ which is set to be released in Telugu. He is donning his most brutally savage, and barbaric look in the teaser as he essays a tribal fighter who only looks out for his own people. Vikram’s tribe is unwelcoming to foreigners and will spill blood if they detect even an ounce of threat. The teaser shows that the film will have a rather bleak, dark, and morose tone and opens with the words. “We all worked very hard to get make this thoughtful action adventure set in Kolar Gold Fields during British era,” he said ‘
Actually, Vikram did some Telugu films like ‘Akka Pethanam Chellali Kapuram,’, ‘Bangaru Kutumbam’ and ‘Addala Majaka’ and '9 Nellalu' in1 990s before attaining superstardom in the Tamil film industry. “The success of ‘Sethu’ in Tamil made him a star and he went to become a superstar with hits like ‘Dhill,’ ‘Gemini’ and ‘Saami’ and he shattered box office records with ‘Anniyan’ to reach big league,” says a distributor, who claims that Vikram returned to Telugu states with his dubbed Telugu movies like ‘Sivapruthudu’, ‘Aparachitudu,’ and ‘I’ and tasted success besides showcasing his acting brilliance.
Later, flops like ‘Sketch’ and ‘Swamy Square’ dented his ratings in Telugu states, while his rivals like Suriya, Vijay and Karthi took over his place. “Vikram has to bounce back with ‘Thangalan’ since his Telugu market has hit a new low and he has to revive his winning streak with a blockbuster,” he concludes.
