Sankranthi clash is bit unhealthy' and unfortunate'
With five big films set to clash at ticket windows during upcoming Sankranthi festival, some distributors are claiming that it would be unhealthy for the films as well as for the industry. “Each film eating into others collections is going to mar the revenue prospects of every film,” says a distributor and adds, “More than Rs 250 crores are riding on these films and one big film should move out of race to give decent collections for each film but no one is listening for now,” he adds
No doubt, producer Dil Raju is trying to find a way out and avoid a clash but things are not improving since all top producers are unwilling to budge from their stand. “Dil Raju will be returning from Australia and going to organize a few more meetings to resolve this stalemate. With producers unwilling to back out from the Sankranthi race, it is going to badly dent collections of all films,” he adds.
He claims that any film which moves out and gets released on January 26, it would be luckiest film. “January 26th will be the luckiest day and the producer can garner more money. It would be a sure fire winner since it will be solo release and bound to rock box office,” he points.
With big-ticket films like ‘Guntur Kaaram’, ‘Saindhav’, ‘Naa Saami Ranga,’ ‘Eagle’ and ‘Hanu-Man’ set for a clash at ticket windows starting from January 12, he adds, “For instance, if you serve 500 delicacies at a buffet, it will be difficult for people to eat all of them, rather they consume limited number of dishes. Similarly, five films will be too much to digest for Telugu viewers and they are going to choose one to two good films and discard the others, which could turn unfortunate for others,” he reasons.
He is still hoping that leading producers will give it a thought and move to a different date to skip the clash and make money. “Producers have to be liberal to wriggle out of his stalemate and win big at box office,” he concludes.
