TFCC Lauds Centre for Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill
The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce expressed happiness to the Central government for passing the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023, in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. “We are thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and central ministers Anurag Thakur and L O Murugan for bringing in these necessary amendments,” TFCC said in a statement.
The statement added, “These changes are bound to help the producers in protecting their movies from the menace of piracy in a big way.”
Actually, the Bill seeks to crack a whip on film piracy and aims to give more powers to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue separate certificates for a film’s exhibition on television or any other media.
It also entails a three-year jail term and a fine of up to 5 percent of a film’s production cost for those making its pirated copies.
It also introduces three certifications under the ‘UA’ category, UA 7+, UA 13+ and UA 16+, which means that children younger than the given age limits can access such movies with parental guidance.
