RRR Producer Fascinated by Larger-than-life Movies
Top Tollywood producer DVV Danayya, who is basking in the massive success of ‘RRR’ featuring reigning stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan, is now making another Rs 200 crore film ‘OG’ with Power Star Pawan Kalyan. He describes Pawan as a dedicated actor. The ace producer, who has also made big-ticket movies with Mahesh Babu, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun is being hailed as a star filmmaker in Tollywood. He talks about his future plans with Deccan Chronicle
Q: After tasting success with Rs 500 crore ‘RRR’, you are making another Rs 200 crore film ‘OG”. Are you fascinated with lavish entertainers?
A: Honestly, I am a bit fascinated with larger-than-life movies. With new generation audiences also loving to watch grandeur in movies, it has served my purpose. I can’t disclose the figures of "OG" but I don't mind spending big sums if the script demands it. Actually, big Telugu star movies loaded with slam-bang action, richly-mounted songs and heroic acts have taken Telugu cinema to the world stage. It is time for Telugus to feel proud about our makers who have breached regional and language barriers to rock the world.
Q: The glimpse of ‘OG’ has triggered a storm. How is it working with Pawan Kalyan?
A: We intended to deliver a ‘never-before-seen’ action saga and the huge response for our glimpse has boosted our confidence. Director Sujeeth has designed a unique action adventure revolving around dreaded gangsters set in the 1980s. Working with Pawan Kalyan is always special because he is a dedicated actor who can slip into all kinds of roles. We have erected massive sets and shooting at various locales to get the periodic look right and just 40% of the shooting remains with plans to release next year.
Q: You have only worked with big stars like Mahesh Babu(Bharat Ane Nenu), Ram Charan (Vinaya Videya..)’ and Allu Arjun (Desamuduru)?
A: Working with superstars gives me a new high. I had a great time working with Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan and Jr NTR, who are all professional actors. They have to cater to their respective fan following, so finding the right script is the key. After an action-centric script, a capable director is needed to stitch up the right combination. If everything falls in place, it is going to shatter the box office, but one or two films failed to live up to high expectations. On the whole, it has been a wonderful journey.
Q: But you have rarely worked with other actors?
A; I have tasted huge success with natural star Nani in ‘Ninnu Kori’ because I also believe in promoting content-driven films. I am doing another big ticket film with Nani to be directed by Vivek Athreya from October, so I try to strike a balance.
