Exclusive: Nagarjuna opens up on Naga Chaitanya-Samantha's 'most simple' wedding

The first ceremony takes place on October 6 and the second one will follow on October 7.

Nagarjuna is a new person. Well, not literally, but the actor has recently shaved off his signature moustache and is now sporting a new look. While many have contemplated and commented that perhaps it is for a new film, the actor says, “No, not for that, this is for no particular reason. There is no shooting in the coming three months, so I thought I should try something new.” He adds on a lighter vein, “All the girls like it and I am okay with it.”

Chay’s big day
Talking about one of the hottest topics in Tollywood and Kollywood — the wedding of his elder son Naga Chaitanya with Samantha Prabhu, Nagarjuna says, “Yes, October is very special for me because they are getting married. We are all excited about the wedding. What I like the most is that they are getting married according to both Hindu and Christian customs.” The first ceremony takes place on October 6 and the second one will follow on October 7.

Reminiscing the time when he got married to Amala in 1992 in a simple ceremony at the Arya Samaj, Nagarjuna recalls, “They had explained the meaning of every sloka to both of us. I still remember that they explained why we walk seven steps, amongst other rituals. So I told my son to understand the meaning of every sloka before he performs them at his marriage ceremony. It’s not like you sit for half-an-hour and do what the purohit says. It is good to learn the meaning of every sloka!”

The 58-year-old actor further revealed that only 100 people were going to attend Chaitanya’s wedding. “With Rama Naidu garu’s and our family, it’s hardly 100 members. It’s not a lavish wedding, it is the most simple one,” he says, adding that he wanted to invite everyone who was close to him. “I am planning a reception in Hyderabad and the date isn’t final yet. Both Chaitanya nd Samantha are busy shooting after their marriage, so I will decide the date later.”

First colleague, now dIL
Nagarjuna has another reason to be happy. The actor is quite confident about his upcoming film Raju Gaari Gadhi 2, where he plays a mentalist. “When the director narrated the subject to me, I immediately said ‘yes’ to this project, because I always believe in supernatural power and I liked the concept. But it’s not only a horror or comedy film, it’s a family film and there are a lot of emotions. My character has a relationship with a soul and I talk to her,” explains the actor.

Interestingly, his would-be daughter-in-law, Samantha, is also playing a key role in this film. So did he suggest her name for the film? “No, I never suggested her name. Moreover, I didn’t want to see my daughter-in-law as a ghost,” Nagarjuna states. “Now my son has to live with her (a ghost),” he laughs, and quickly adds, “Chaitanya told me that he doesn’t want to watch this film.”

Praising Samantha’s performance as a ghost, he says, “She appears at many places in the film and she does it well. The last 20 minutes of the film are outstanding and show a conversation between me and her. I have seen the film many times and it is gripping.” he says. Nagarjuna also mentioned that there could be another sequel to RGG2 if the film succeeded at the box office.
