Acting is easier than giving auditions
It was in the midst of a heavy downpour that Nupur Sanon reached Hyderabad to attend the release of a single from her upcoming film, Tiger Nageswara Rao. She has been frequenting the city for shootings ever since she signed the Ravi Teja-starrer, last year. We ask her what comes to mind first when she thinks of Hyderabad, and she promptly replies, “Rains!”
“I was in Hyderabad a few weeks ago and it was raining heavily then too. So guess what, I am bringing all the Mumbai rains here,” she smiles.
Nupur shot for a scene of the film at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. It made her nostalgic because the last time she visited RFC was to accompany her sister Kriti Sanon on the sets of Dilwale in 2016. “Throughout the shooting I was remembering being at RFC as Kriti’s sister. But now that I was there as an actress, there was more responsibility,” she shares
Tiger Nageswara Rao, directed by Vamsee, is Nupur’s debut film. But the fact is, she never wanted to become an actress. A trained classical singer from Delhi, Nupur relocated to Mumbai to pursue a career in digital marketing and also to nurture her singing skills.
“I used to post videos of my singing on social media. A production house called me and asked me to come for an audition. I thought it was for my singing and I agreed. But after going there I was shocked to discover that it was a casting call,” she reveals. Even though she said she wasn’t good at acting, the production house encouraged her to give the audition.
After a few days, she was surprised to learn that they wanted her on board. She even did a month-long acting workshop with the filmmakers. “Although that film was shelved, I learnt a lot about acting. That’s when the acting bug bit me and I started to pursue it actively. I never thought I’d end up following my sister’s footsteps,” she says
When she first told Kriti she wanted to act, her instant reaction was, ‘Are you sure?’ “Kriti is protective about me. She wants me to do whatever I want but wholeheartedly. We share a very close bond, and hence she wanted to know if the call to act came from deep within. When our dear ones or siblings are into any profession, we can easily get carried away and want a career in the same field. My sister wanted to make sure that getting into films was my own decision,” explains Nupur.
Now, having shot for her debut film, Nupur feels “acting is easier than giving auditions.” “Giving auditions, trying to be a character who is not really you and where you are not getting energy from others (who are also attending the audition) is tougher,” she says, adding, “In films, you have co-stars who can bring out equal emotions, and the atmosphere is as real as it can get.”
Nupur will debut in Hindi with the film Noorani Chehra opposite Nawazuddin.
