Sanjay Leela Bhansali loved the story of 'Ninnu Kori'
At the outset, it seems like Nani’s upcoming film Ninnu Kori, is yet another love story after Majnu and Nenu Local. However, the actor himself, begs to differ. “What is not a love story? Every film we make has one. And that’s why when we make a romantic film, we try to do something that hasn’t been done earlier. Then again, not many actors have done a thriller like Gentleman, an adventure film with kids like Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha, or a Bhale Bhale Magadivoi where the lead character has a flaw or even a Nenu Local, where the character’s attitude drives a story. I think I am doing a variety of films. Maybe being seen on the screen often might result in similarities being drawn,” he shares, adding that every film he does might have a love story, but the film isn’t necessarily about it.
Directed by debutant Siva Nirvana, the film also stars Nivetha Thomas and Aadhi Pinisetty in key roles. However, the actor tells us that it isn’t a triangular love story as assumed by many. “And there’s no hero in the film either! It’s possible that both of them will be remembered more than me, post release,” he shares, adding, “My confidence on the film is because of director Siva’s honesty and sincerity when he talks about the film. The emotion he felt for the story made me believe that it will work.”
The single Adiga Adiga, from the film became a hit soon after release. Talking about it, Nani shares, “I knew the song was slow poison! That’s why despite apprehensions from some team members, we went ahead and released it! It worked, and people loved it.”
Interestingly, after rumours that the film is inspired by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, apparently Kona Venkat (one of the film’s producers) got a call from the Bollywood ace to check about the same. “Venkat garu narrated the story to him over the phone for 35 minutes. Bhansaliji said he was jealous! He loved the story. It’s such a huge compliment,” Nani concludes.
