Sudheer Babu\'s Maama Mascheendra is a lacklustre, silly film
Cast: Sudheer Babu, Mrinalini, Eesha Rebbha, Harsha Vardhan and others
Director: Harsha Vardhan
Ratings: 1.5 stars
Actor Sudheer Babu pays tribute to legendary actor Krishna at the beginning of his movie ‘Mama Mascheendra', saying he would carry the ‘guts’ of his father-in-law throughout his career. He surely took a daring step to play multiple roles amidst heaps of flops as a solo hero as his last few films like ‘Aa Ammayi Gurinchi’ and ‘‘Hunt’ tanked at the box office.
At least, he could have chosen an interesting script to showcase different shades in varied roles, but he disappoints with a lacklustre revenge saga. Writer-turned-director Harsha Vardhan comes up with a screenplay with twists but they would better suit a daily serial than a movie.
Probably, he was a bit inspired by ‘Ala Vaikuntapurammlo’ where ‘changing infants’ created a lot of drama. But here it looks ridiculous due to inept narration. It fails to evoke sympathy for the two exchanged girls Mrinalni and Esha Rebba as it is relegated to the last few moments in the film.
Above all, Sudheer Babu could have come up with a better performance to keep the audience glued to their seats as he was doing multiple roles. Rather he delivers a superficial performance with bloated pounch and cheeks in one role. Even the love story of young Sudheer Babu goes for a toss.
Coming to the story, Sudheer Babu along with his mother provides food to orphans and aged people but his father keeps torturing his mother for property. Now, grown-up Sudheer Babu kills his father and serves a 14-year life sentence. He returns to find his property in the wrong hands of his uncle (Ajay) and hatches a plan to recover it He knows that Ajay is unhappy with his son and he becomes his son and marries the girl his father found for his son. Meanwhile, Sudheer befriends Harsha Varshan, and both handle their uncle's family business. Sudheera decides to kill his uncle’s son and his two sons to usurp the property, but fate has other plans.
Sudheer Babu has to be very particular about choosing the right scripts, rather than doing films for the sake of it. His father-in-law Krishna was a mass hero and also did path-breaking films like ‘Meena’, ‘Alluri Seetharamaraju’ and ‘Simhasanam’ to be hailed as a superstar. Sudheer has to focus on new scripts and emulate Krishna in treading his own path. Actresses Eesha Rebba and Mrinalni look pretty but can’t salvage sketchy roles. Harsha Vardhan who also plays a key role is okay but his directorial skills are not up to the mark and his writing is pathetic, to say the least.
