I'm selective about projects: Anu Emmanuel
A perusal of Anu Emmanuel’s filmography will reveal that she’s very choosy about her projects. Be it in Telugu, Tamil or Malayalam, the actress says she takes on only films where the story and role resonate with her. “I’m selective. I also don't repeat my characters, as I want to be versatile. I have no qualms about waiting for good films,” she asserts.
Anu will be next seen in Japan, a heist thriller starring Karthi. She describes the Raju Murugan directorial as ‘whacky, crazy and unconventional cinema.’ “What I like about the director is that his storylines are niche and films are unique. I like his style of writing and narrating. The offer was something I couldn’t resist,” says Anu, adding that Japan is the kind of film she would like to watch as an audience.
Interestingly, she plays an actress in the movie. She says her role will be a surprise element in the film. “I play Japan’s (Karthi) lady love and we have a layered and interesting track. Playing an actress in Japan is enriching. It’s a new experience,” she says.
Describing Karthi as a performer, Anu also reveals that she and Karthi discussed among themselves how they could make the scenes better. “And this being his 25th film makes it more special,” she says.
Sharing an anecdote, Anu says during the last week of shooting in Kashmir she suffered a fall from a horse, but Karthi was empathic and gave her time to get back into the groove.
The Urvasivo Rakshasivo actress has worked with many top stars. She says every actor is different from the other, and she has learnt various things and gained a lot of insights into filmmaking, in the process. “What makes them stars is their humbleness,” she adds.
