I learnt to be more enduring in my journey to fame, says Priya Prakash Varrier
Her debut film in Telugu, Check, is still in the making, but Priya Prakash Varrier has just signed a new film to be produced by R.B Choudary. The yet-to-be-titled romantic entertainer with Teja Sajja is being directed by Nagaraju and is the remake of the 2019-Malayalam romance–drama, Ishq.
“I just started shooting for the film in Hyderabad. It’s been a while, about eight months, since I dropped in on a film set. So it feels great to be in front of the camera,” says a beaming Priya.
Talking about the remake she’s now a part of, Priya tells us that she was hooked to the plotline after she watched the original version of the film. “The content gives me a great opportunity to exhibit several emotions. So when I heard the narration, I instantly gave my nod and started the shooting immediately,” shares Priya.
While shooting for Check, in which she plays Nithiin’s love interest, the actress shares that she’d been honing her Telugu language skills. “I read the script thoroughly two days before my shooting portions because the film had a lot of dialogues. I had an assistant director to help me with the dialogues,” explains the actress. “But in the Ishq remake, my role has a lot to express through eyes and body language.”
Although Priya has been to Hyderabad a few times for work, she says the warmth of the city keep her coming back to the city for more. “The food and the vibrant culture are the best things I like about Hyderabad. I am a foodie! Last time, I went to Charminar. This time, I’d like to explore the city further,” shares Priya.
Though the Thrissur-born actress attained stardom overnight with her famous ‘wink act’ in the 2018-Omar-Lulu directorial Oru Adaar Love, Priya states that stardom comes with its own set of challenges. “I realised stardom also brings more responsibility. People are constantly watching me and I realise I want to live up to their expectations,” says the actress.
And Priya constantly keeps her fans and followers updated on social media by posting yummy recipes and her photos as she poses at picturesque and iconic locations. So how much of the real Priya do we find through her social media posts? She simply smiles and says, “I am pretty much the same. I am a very spontaneous person. But at the same time, I feel I am responsible to my followers. So at times, I am rather choosy, but that doesn’t stop me from celebrating myself and posting random stuff.”
Priya also tells us that the most significant aspect about stardom was that it made her more patient. “I am also learning to be more enduring in the journey to fame. For instance, there are some who like the thrill of misusing social media trolling and leaving negativity around. But stardom has actually taught me to ignore them and learn to be more tolerant,” she says.
