Writers are a neglected lot in India

A couple of weeks ago, producer Sunitha Tati announced that she had acquired the rights for the Korean thriller He Is Psychometric. And on Thursday morning, she acquired the Indian rights for Korean television series Good Doctor.

“I like the way the protagonist’s role is written and the emotion that are built around it. The protagonist has a syndrome, and the world sees him as an imperfectionist. But he still helps people. I feel that’s the need of the hour in our society,” says Sunitha.

She earlier bankrolled films like Oh Baby and Saakini Daakini (Korean adaptations) and Dongalunnaru Jagratta (a Spanish adaptation).

Asked about her fascination for adapting Korean films in Telugu, Sunitha replies that she likes the depth of the writing and script detailing. “Be it building a character, writing situations or plotting, their writings are compact and edgy,” she explains.

The producer says despite excellent writers having come up with great scripts in India, they are being ignored. “Unfortunately, the writers are not being taken care of. So I want to inspire writers and curate better content. I aspire to tell an Indian story and sell the remake rights to a foreign country,” she shares.
