After Vijay and Dhanush, Suriya to mint money in Telugu states

With Tamil stars Karthi and Raghava Lawrence set to arrive in Telugu states with ‘Japan’ and ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’ respectively on November 10, more Tamil heroes are making a beeline to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Dhanush's much-hyped film ‘Captain Miller’ and Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ are other much-awaited films in two Telugu states.

“More Tamil stars are going to land in Telugu states since Telugu viewers encourage novel content and talented actors. Hence dubbed movies are going to rule the roost,” says producer-exhibitor Sunil Narang, who minted big money with Rajnikanth’s ‘Jailer’ which garnered more than Rs 30 crores. "It is one of the biggest hits among dubbed movies as Rajnikanth’s charm and mannerisms worked wonders. Although his earlier films didn’t do well, Rajini bounced back with ' 'Jailer,” he adds.

Although dubbed films like ‘Mahaveerudu’, ‘Chandramukhi 2’, and ‘Nayakudu’ failed to impress Telugu viewers, films like ‘Leo’ garnered more than Rs 22 crore to keep the craze for dubbed movies intact. "Some films work and some don’t because novel content is the key to draw in Telugu viewers,” he points out

Realising the high potential of Telugu markets, the makers of 'Kanguva' and 'Captain Miller' are demanding fancy prices for Telugu dubbing rights. "It is true that Tamil makers are quoting high prices. We are also in talks to buy "Kanguva,' but nothing has been fixed yet. Dhanush's 'Captain Miller' is also one of the crazy projects and discussions are underway. Some Tamil stars have a fan following and market in Telugu states and are bound to exploit it. We as buyers have to be cautious and choose the right ones at affordable rates," concludes Sunil Narang.
