Meher Ramesh to turn 'remake' specialist
Director Meher Ramesh, who made big movies like ‘Billa’ and Kantri, is making a comeback of sorts with his upcoming film ‘Bholaa Shankar’ after a long sabbatical. Chiranjeevi trusted him and gave him a chance to direct a big-ticket flick amidst doing films with happening directors like Mohan Raj and Bobby. “If not for Chiranjeevi, this wouldn’t have happened’, says a source.
After making films with big stars like Prabhas(Billa), and NTR Jr (Kantri), Meher Ramesh was ruling the roost. When his much-hyped movie “Shakti’ with NTR Jr and Ileana, a devotional thriller, bombed, his career took a beating. Undeterred, he returned with an action drama ‘Shadow’ with Venkatesh but it sank without a trace, leaving him high and dry. “He was on a break for more than five years. He kept himself busy watching movies and penning stories but always kept his confidence high,” the source adds.
Probably, Chiru would have felt that Meher could do a better job in remaking Tamil movies. “Meher remade the Tamil film ‘Billa’ with Prabhas in Telugu and it was a run-a-way hit. When Chiranjeevi resolved to do a remake of Tamil star Ajith’s ‘Vedaalam’, he brought in Meher. The director has made some changes with the suggestions of Chiru to cater to the tastes of mega fans and Telugu viewers with lots of dances and fights,” the source adds. If he succeeds, Meher would be hailed a remake specialist.
