Harish Shankar Bats For Remakes
Noted director Harish Shankar comes out in big support of ‘remakes’ by claiming that there is nothing wrong with it. “As a director, we do get inspired by news articles and real-life incidents happening around us. So remaking another language film also falls into this category. As we are inspired by a particular film, we genuinely buy the rights and redo it in Telugu to offer something new for Telugu audience,” he said at 200-days function of 'Waltair Veerayya'.
He also thanked Chiranjeevi for his support for remakes and also explained the additional pressure while doing remake of a successful Tamil or Bollywood film. “We have to undergo a lot of pressure while doing remakes. Since there are people who will try to draw comparisons with the original and tear us down,” he adds.
He also describes social media trolls as new intelligentsia. “There are some people who believe themselves to be very intelligent and smart. They are busy posting comments and ridiculing makers. But we care a damn about them and keep doing our work,” he added.
Actually, Harish tasted big success with remakes. He remade Bollywood hit movie ‘Dabbang’ in Telugu as ‘Gabbar Singh’ and Tamil film ‘Jigarthanda’ as ‘Gaddalakonda Ganesh ‘ after making necessary changes to suit the taste of Telugu film viewers.
Currently, he is remaking the Tamil film ‘Theri’ as ‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’ with Pawan Kalyan who plays a fearless cop. Hence, he has more reasons to support remaking culture in Tollywood.
