Litmus test for biopics post TRS show

While K. Chandrashekar Rao's TRS party swept the recent assembly elections, the impact on the two forthcoming political biopics is much debated.

Yatra, the first of two such movies is based on late CM YS Rajasekhar Reddy and his famous marathon walk. His son YS Jaganmohan Reddy is completely confined to Andhra Pradesh and his party has almost no presence in Telangana state.

The other film is based on another late chief minister and legendary actor NT Rama Rao who was the founder of Telugu Desam Party, which has deep roots in Telangana state.

The election has underlined the fact that KCR is the undisputed leader in Telangana, so how the two films will fare is intriguing many. While YSR’s marathon walk may be of interest to people in Andhra Pradesh where Jagan has a significant fan following, it may not be so in Telangana, where he has none.

As for NTR, though the TDP is not in Telangana, the late NTR is still a popular actor and commands respect and mass appeal. Interestingly, these two films are going to compete in the coming Sankranthi festival and how they fare at Telangana box-office is to be seen.
