Pushing the envelope
A recent video starring Rakul Preet Singh that was released on the occasion of International Women’s Day, #NoWomensDay, by the YouTube channel Lol Ok Please has gone viral.
Everyone has been appreciating the actress and her decision to voice her views on such an important day. But what not many spoke about was about the people behind it.
One of them, Abhishek Maharshi who wrote the script for the video is an actor-writer who has been around the industry for nearly a decade now. “I think by the time I was in Class XII, I knew that visuals were what attracted me. I think it was the childhood days of sitting with my father as we watched old English films that influenced me,” shares Abhishek, who has played key roles in films like Tanu Nenu and Best Actors and will be seen in 9 Hours, Aithe 2.0 and Sri Rama Raksha, next. “Each film has been a new experience for me because I got to play different roles, and I am really looking forward to their release,” he says.
Abhishek shares that his journey so far has been full of ups and downs, and that has taught him the art of survival, and the way to become a rock. “I am an actor. And I also like writing and direction. Several times, it seemed like things were finally going great but something untoward would happen. For instance, I worked on one film’s script tirelessly but when the film released, I wasn’t given the due credit. The film was received really well and could have changed things for me,” he rues, and adds, “But there are silver linings like the time when cinematographer K.V. Guhan saw my work and praised my technique. It’s the best thing ever.”
While he is instrumental in the functioning of Lol Ok Please, he has also designed a UI app and is soon starting off with a new project alongside short films. He is a photographer too. “I can’t do one thing at a time. The creative thirst is immense. I am constantly thinking of ways to keep myself engaged,” he shares.
As for the video starring Rakul Preet, Abhishek recalls, “I really should thank my friend and colleague Anirudh who pushed me to write it. The video was his idea, and he felt I could do justice to the mood of the film. He helped me bring a balance to what I wrote.”
