Meaty roles are a rarity: Raai Laxmi

After Jhansi IPS, Raai Laxmi will once again be seen enacting a cop in the forthcoming Karri Balaji directorial, Ananda Bhairavi.

Raai Laxmi is all set to spring a surprise. The actress will be seen as a cop in her forthcoming film, Ananda Bhairavi, a suspense thriller.

Directed by Karri Balaji, the film, which is based on true stories of the rape incidents that have taken place in India, also features Anjali in an important role. “What truly captured my attention was the film’s plot. The story is contemporary, so I could connect to it,” Laxmi said, adding that her role Bhairavi in the film has come to her as a breath of fresh air. While the actress has played a cop in the past — in the film Jhansi IPS — her character in Ananda Bhairavi has been penned along the lines of Rani Mukherji’s role in Mardaani. “My experience from Jhansi has certainly made it easier for me to walk in the shoes of my character in Ananda Bhairavi. Besides, I’m a fitness freak, so I don’t really have to prepare from scratch.”

In her journey so far, Laxmi has acted in over 50 films, both south Indian and Hindi. “I never really had a filmy background or a godfather to guide me, so I had to learn things the hard way. I spent my first 25 films just figuring out the type of roles that suit me. And after all these years of experience as an actor, I have come to realise that meaty roles are a rarity,” she said.
