Giving my own spin to characters makes me look authentic: Sreeleela

The a joke is: ‘if Sreeleela has to take a day off from shooting the industry has to be on a strike.’ This is an indication of how occupied the actress has been. She has a release every month – starting from September 2023 to January 2024 – a rare sight for an actress. Put that to her and she replies, “Honestly, I consider it a blessing! But every film belongs to a different genre so every project has been an eye-opener.”

Sreeleela hasn’t been put through any formal training in acting. Over the last year she has been on a signing spree. And audiences are getting to see her in back to back releases continuously. Isn’t she apprehensive that she may be stereotyped?

Sreeleela feels she’s fortunate to play different roles in various films. “I am enjoying what I do,” she comments, adding that she’s learning with each film. “What excites me as an actor is doing things differently. Another actress too can do the same role, but giving the part my own spin makes me authentic and that’s what I have been aiming for – try to be as realistic as possible.”

Her dance moves have become famous too. Every move of hers is being
made into a hook step, driving fans and audiences into a frenzy.

“I enjoy dancing; it may give me a different dimension but grooving is something I naturally enjoy. My expressions say it all, how much I enjoy,” says the trained bharatanatyam dancer.

The actress will be next seen in Balakrishna-starrer Bhagavanth Kesari.
According to her, the role in the Anil Ravipudi directorial is a complete departure. She plays Vijji papa, Balakrishna’s daughter. The film also explores a father-daughter relationship.

“The depth and arc of my role was something I couldn’t resist taking up. The role has several emotions and layers that are so challenging. People associate me with grooving but at the same time I also want to prove myself as an actor. This film gave me the opportunity to establish my acting and performance,” she says.

Working with different stars has been an insightful experience for her. But Sreeleela is surprised with her-co-star Balakrishna’s knowledge over various subject issues. “And the energy he brings to the film sets is infectious. I am
amazed to see his discipline and it was very inspiring.”
