A biopic on Murali Kunnumpurath
Biopics usually chronicle the success stories of prominent people. Interestingly, we now have a film on a guy who was initially an alcoholic, and was almost abandoned by his family — Murali Kunnumpurath. How he gave up the habit and went on to be a successful entrepreneur is what the biopic is all about.
Director Manu Yagna says he was fascinated by the life journey of Murali. “I feel the story of someone who was a nobody going on to become a great businessman makes for an emotional ride. So when I was offered the project I thought it would be a great film,” he explains, adding that Murali is producing the film too.
“Vellam, the biopic, was first released in Malayalam in January, but this film in Telugu will have a completely different spin, and is not a remake,” clarifies the director, revealing that it was offered to him after the producer saw the posters of his upcoming project, Anaganaga Oka Rowdy, starring Sumanth. “While my film with Sumanth is a drama, I believe a biopic will also be challenging to work on. Hence I took this project,” he signs off.
