Thaman to make Bollywood debut
Renowned music composer Thaman, who has worked with almost all the well-known names in the South Indian film industry, is set to make his Bollywood debut with director Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again, the fourth film in the popular Golmaal franchise, which stars Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Tabu, Arshad Warsi and others in the lead roles.
The news was confirmed by the composer himself, who posted a picture with Rohit and tweeted, “My Bollywood debut with my dear director Rohit Shetty, the man of the masses. It’s for Golmaal 4 (sic).”
Describing how the opportunity came about, Thaman says, “It didn’t just happen overnight. We have been in talks since a couple of months. Music is a universal language and I have always wanted to branch out to as many industries as possible. It’s exciting to be making my Hindi debut.”
Elaborating on the same, he says, “There has been a lot of crossover of talent across industries in the recent past and I was waiting for a good opportunity from very long. I wanted my debut to be significant, like with Kick in Telugu. Rohit Shetty is a big man and a commercially viable director. He knows exactly what he wants from a music director and I am very kicked about this new beginning.”
Thaman adds, “It is a dream to work with someone like Rohit, who understands the audiences’ pulse. When I went to meet him, I was surprised that he was already familiar with my work and has been following my compositions from a couple of years. His confidence in me is quite encouraging.”
While it seems like the music composer is stepping into a new arena, he thinks otherwise. He explains, “Nearly fifty per cent of my work in general happens in Mumbai anyway! The only difference will be that it is a Hindi film, something I haven’t done earlier.”
