Despite his earlier film ‘Jawaan’ making waves in Telugu states, the distributors of his upcoming big ticket film ‘Dunki’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Tapsee have dropped plans for Telugu version. “They have not dubbed 'Dunki' in Telugu and would be releasing only the Hindi version in two Telugu states,” says a top distributor and adds, “They could have cashed in the success of ‘Jawaan’s Telugu version in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana but they missed a good opportunity to make some money,” he adds.
Renowned Bollywood production Rajshri Pictures is distributing the big ticket film. “Shah Rukh Khan has gained a good following among Telugu viewers with ‘Pathaan’ and “Jawaan’ and his next is Dunki’, a comedy-drama based on "donkey flights", an illegal immigration entry technique is also much awaited. The film is directed and edited by Rajkumar Hirani. Even Tapsee is known to Telugu viewers but they preferred Hindi releases. Quite a disappointment for Telugu fans of SRK as well,” he points out.
Actually, Hindi versions do well in Telangana state since people in Telangana love to watch Hindi movies whereas it is a different story in Andhra Pradesh, “Film viewers in Andhra Pradesh enjoy watching Telugu version over Hindi since they are not well-versed in Hindi language. So they have to watch ‘Dunki’ in Hindi and the film could do better in cities like Vijayawada and Vizag but it will find it hard to get big crowds in B and C centres in Andhra Pradesh,” he concludes.
