Eswari Rao stages a comeback
Yesteryear actress Eswari Rao is all over the news after being paired opposite Rajinikanth in his upcoming big-budget film Kaala. This will mark her comeback to Tamil cinema, where she will be seen as the superstar’s onscreen wife. The shooting for the film has already begun.
“It’s a gift to my kids as they want to see me on the big screen,” says Eswari, adding that she cannot reveal any details about the film yet. The film is being directed by Pa. Ranjith, who remembered the actress’ past performances and offered her the role.
Eswari hails from Rajahmundry, but made her debut in a Tamil film in 1990. She started garnering public attention after acting in the 1996 film Rambantu, which was directed by Bapu. She has worked with some fine directors including Balu Mahendra.
Even though the actress received many film offers in the late 90s, she didn’t accept any and chose to settle down. “I am always choosy about my films, so that’s the reason I didn’t act in many films,” she says.
Eswari, who has two kids, added that after getting married to director L. Raja, she distanced herself from the industry. However, after a break, she made a comeback in a Telugu film Legend.
Eswari went on to act in films like Andhra Pori, Brahmotsavam and Ism. Two of her roles, one in A… Aa… and the recent Nenu Local became big hits. Eswari says she is still choosy about her roles.
