Premkumar, An Awful Story Loaded With Poor Jokes
Cast: Santosh Sobhan, Rashi Singh, Ashok Kumar and Krishna Chaitanya
Direction: Abhishek Maharshi
Rating: 1.5 stars
After duds like ‘Like, Share& Subscribe’ and ‘Anni Manchi Sakunamule’ young actor Santosh Sobhan returns with another disappointing fare ‘Premkumar’. He tries to salvage the ill-defined role of a lover boy, who is unlucky with marriages, but takes up the job of breaking weddings for a sum, but it goes awry.
Director Abhishek Maharshi doesn’t try to familiarize the rare profession to the audience; rather he uses it to evoke laughs as two families fight it out in marriage halls over rumors spread by the hero and his friend which is disgusting. But the heroine comes to save that marriage. Next day, they don't repent about their deeds.
No doubt, there is a love story between Sobhan and heroine Rashi Singh but it falls flat due to amateurish treatment but captures some moments between two longing lovers only towards the end.
Actually, Sobhan’s role reminds us of seasoned star Venkatesh, a frustrated bachelor role in blockbusters like ‘Malliswari” and ‘Namo Venkatesa’ but Sobhan couldn’t match up to him both in comic-timing or in drawing sympathy for being unlucky in life.
It’s a tale of a youngster (Sobhan) who is unlucky with marriages and has lost over 300-odd girls but still craves to get married with the help of his mother. He sets up a detective agency to check out whether a wife or husband is having an affair, but eventually turns into a wedding breaker for a good sum. In the process, he happens to meet his old love (Raashi Singh), who walked out of their marriage, and love re-ignites within him. Will she reciprocate or will they part ways? Find out in theatres.
Around 20-odd young directors were unable to make their mark this year, despite getting a good chance, by choosing insipid plots and dreary narration, prompting audiences not to step into theatres, wary of such nonsensical movies.
