Tamil star Vijay Antony is gradually gaining some foothold in Tollywood as he gets ready with his next outing ‘Hatya’ which is slated to release shortly. “Vijay Antony’s last release ‘Bichagadu 2’ raked in more than Rs 8 crores in two Telugu states and it was a safe bet for distributors,” says a distributor, who claims that Vijay has gained a credible following in twin Telugu states. “Vijay has gained a good following after smashing hit ‘Bichagadu’ which made more than Rs 35 crores in Telugu states and set a new record for dubbed movies in Telugu,” he adds.
Vijay Antony is known for novel thrillers like ‘Dr Saleem’ and ‘Bethaludu’ but his commercial movies like ‘Indrasena’ bombed at the Telugu box office. “Whenever, Vijay has come up with an interesting thriller he is able to grab more eyeballs but not with usual masala movies,” he points out.
Invariably, Vijay Antony joins the bandwagon of new-age stars like Siva Karthikeyan, Simbu and Vishal to garner some collections from Telugu states besides Tamil Nadu and overseas markets.
