Leading production house People’s Media Factory stepped into distribution with much-hyped ‘Adipurush’ and bought the film for two Telugu states. After a terrific opening weekend, collections are dropping post-Monday. “We are not in a hurry,” says producer T G Vishwa Prasad to BVS Prakash of Deccan Chronicle.
Q: Aren’t you worried about dropping collections after a sensational opening weekend of Rs 65 cr plus net collections?
A: Frankly I would say no. Firstly, this is not a regular masala commercial film where you have to worry about just opening week collections. Of course, Prabhas has shown his crowd pulling prowess with a sensational opening weekend, but being a mythological epic, it will grow slowly on the audience and is bound to breakeven in the days to come.
Q: The film has to cover more than Rs 120 crore plus going by the box office estimates. Already critics and social media panned the film.
A: I would avoid talking about figures, but we are sure to recover our investments in the long run in the two Telugu states. And also there are no big releases for next two weeks and exhibitors are happy to continue our movie. For instance, I would like to take the name Nagarjuna’s Ramdass, which made huge money in its 100 days run and we hope to repeat the same.
Backlash on social media and critics, hasn’t affected us much in Telugu states. Since Telugu audience always lapped up mythological and devotional movies.
Q: Another big production house Mythri Movie Makers has distributed the movie in the Nizam area and how is it working with them?
A: It is a good sign that big production houses are joining hands in distribution along with UV Creations, we actually complement each other. More such tie ups will augur well for the industry. Because producer-turning-distributors will make us understand the nuances of the film market much deeper. But we have plenty of productions on hand, so we may not distribute another film for now.
Q: You are making Raja Deluxe with Prabhas, how is it working with a superstar?
A: Prabhas is a gem of a person. He is very disciplined, down-to-earth and dedicated. Raja Deluxe will be a full fledged entertainer meant to enthrall his huge fan base. I can’t reveal more. We would like to be associated with Prabhas in more ways than one since working with him energizes the whole team.
