Salaar has to stride hard to break-even in US?
Although the box office reports for action adventure ‘Salaar’ have been quite encouraging in India, the Prabhas starrer has to stride hard to break-even in the United States of America. “It opened very well in the USA and North America as Prabhas fans thronged theatres and celebrated the action episodes and machoism of Prabhas,” says a overseas distributor and adds, “The film marked terrific openings riding on hype and combination of Prabhas and Prashanth Neel and garnered Rs 5.8 million US dollars. Still, it has to go a long way to break-even for distributors who invested big,” he adds.
He claims that Prabhas’s magnum opus has all the ingredients to turn out to be a winner but a few missing elements are causing a few hiccups for its long run. “US citizens will be going on a long holiday and crowds are going to dwindle in theaters after Christmas celebrations and thereafter,” he says and adds, “So, ‘Salaar’ which has to make more than Rs 15 million US dollars to break-even, has to garner huge collections in the days to come,” he adds.
No doubt, Prabhas bounced back with ‘Salaar’ and drew sensational openings but the US distributors are keeping their fingers crossed and hoping for the best this week. “The occupancy has to be retained between 60 to 70% because the film was sold for fancy prices and they would be hoping to recover their money in the next few days, otherwise it will turn tough,” he points out.
