I aspire for versatile filmography, says Sheena
Having worked in various languages, including Malayalam, Bengali, and Hindi, Sheena Chohan has now set her eyes on Tollywood. She will be seen as the leading lady in a yet-to-be-titled Telugu film under director Shravan.
The filmmakers were on the lookout for a tall actress with a commanding screen presence. “Producer Malkapuram Shiva Kumar finalised me after seeing my body of work and passion for cinema,” says Sheena who is paired with JD Chakravarthy in the breezy entertainer.
The actress says her role is action-oriented and has a lot of intensity. She has hired a tutor to help her become familiar with Telugu. Working in Tollywood is a new experience for her. “The work culture in the South has a different vibe. I got to know more about how technicians work on different crafts. People’s love for cinema in the south is great,” she comments.
Sheena debuted opposite Mammootty in Malayalam and has worked in Bengali, Hindi, and English films over the last decade. Intermittent roles in web series and short films increased her versatility. Sheena, who holds a brown belt in karate, likes playing strong women and beating up baddies. “I aspire to have versatile filmography and I have been working towards that ever since I debuted. I was able to work on a wide range of characters because of my theatre background in Kolkata,” says the actress, who is also a trained dancer.
Working in multiple industries gave her a lot of experience and insights into filmmaking. It also gave her the confidence to reach out to a wider audience.
During her decade in the industry, Sheena has faced several rejections. But she says that failures are part of the business and she makes sure to move on.
According to her, the fear of failure is more dangerous than actual failure.
