It would be surprising to note that reigning star Prabhas got more than 10 big-budget offers after the average grosser ‘Saaho’ and not after the monster hit ‘Baahubali’. “Prabhas was just waiting patiently but no Hindi producer tapped his door despite ‘Baahubali’ series rocking the box office across the world,” says a distributor from Bollywood, who attributes Prabhas’ pan-India rise to the success of ‘Saaho’ in North India.
“With ‘Saaho’ being a regular commercial Bollywood potboiler and Prabhas pulling it off with his charisma and swag, Hindi film producers owned him up and rushed to his doorstep with fancy offers. Films like ‘Adhipurush’ happened during this time,” he adds. In fact, Prabhas' friends Vamsi and Pramod of UV Creations had to open an office in Mumbai to meet producers and fix up deals, he points out.
With the Hindi version of ‘Adhipurush’ garnering Rs 80-odd crores, despite receiving criticism and backlash, it again proved the crowd-pulling prowess of Prabhas in North India. Surely, Prabhas is holding his fort despite duds like ‘Radhe Shyam’.
