Rajinikanth's Jailer Telugu Biggest Hits Among Dubbed Films
Leading producer-distributor Sunil Narang has been minting gold at the box office with the Tamil dubbed film 'Jailer,' which has garnered over Rs 35 crore net collections in the two Telugu states and setting a new record.
"I can't reveal the exact figures, but it is one of the biggest hits among dubbed films in recent times. Rajnikanth is back with a bang, although his earlier films didn't do well. His charisma and mannerisms have drawn Telugu audiences in big numbers," says Sunil Narang, who rules out the argument that all dubbing movies are working in Telugu states. "For instance, Vijay Antony's "Bichagadu 2' garnered good collections, while films like 'Mahaveerudu' and 'Nayakudu' fared badly, so it all depends on good content," he adds.
Nonetheless, Tamil stars like Suriya(Kanguva), Dhanush (Captain Miller), and Lawrence (Chandramukhi 2) are going to arrive in Telugu states, and they are demanding fancy prices for Telugu dubbing rights. "It is true that Tamil stars are going to land in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the days to come. We are also considering buying "Kanguva,' but something still needs to be fixed, while 'Chandramukhi 2' has been bought by someone else.Dhanush' Captain Miller' is also one of the crazy projects, and discussions are underway. Some Tamil stars have fan following and market in Telugu states and are bound to exploit it. We as buyers have to be cautious and choose the right ones at affordable rates," he informs.
Tamil dubbed films are making waves in Tollywood, but Tamil remakes like Pawan Kalyan's 'Bro' and Chiranjeevi's 'Bhola Shankar' have bombed at the box office. 'Tamil remakes are always risky since original movies would have been watched by Telugu viewers on digital platforms, so it is better to bet money on dubbed movies," he concludes.
