Pageant title not passport to acting
Having won brownie points for her brief portrayal in her debut film, Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi, actress and 2017 Miss India Telangana Simran Choudhary is gearing up for her next film. She’ll be seen as one of the leading ladies in Nithiin’s forthcoming film. Giving us a background on how she got the opportunity in the film, which is being directed by Chandrasekhar Yeleti, Simran states, “When I went for the audition, Yeleti Sir gave me a scene to enact; he was impressed with my performance and later did a look test. And because I know Telugu, I was roped in.” In the film, Simran plays an artiste —her role in the movie is unlike her real-life character. “As the characters in all Yeleti Sir’s films are natural, I did afair bit of research to make my part look authentic,” she reveals.
Simran, who was born to Rajasthani parents in Hyderabad, says she owes a lot to the city. “I may be a north Indian by birth, but the way I lead my life makes me a South Indian and a Hyderabadi at heart. Hyderabad is extremely diverse in its culture, and I’ve even explored the city to the core. Moreover, I won the coveted title of Miss India Telangana from this state,” says the trained classical dancer.
But even after winning the pageant, did it annoy her that she had to audition for her part, we ask.
“Winning a pageant only gives you the opportunity to get into films, but it doesn’t certify you as an actor. Pageants are about being the best version of who you are, but acting is about being a completely different person. Also, a film is a director’s vision, so it’s important that he is convinced with my being cast for the part,” explains Simran.
