An unfavourable singing debut
Bowing to pressure, Vijay Deverakonda has decided to pull the controversial song from his upcoming film Geetha Govindam. The song What The F has caused quite a stir for being a raunchy mix of rap and raga. Its suggestive lyrics have definitely upset a few people.
Says Vijay about the objections raised by a few women’s groups and religious factions, “We didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s sentiments. This song is not vital to the film; we could change the lyrics. For Arjun Reddy, I was targeted when people said the kisses were obscene, I fought back because it was vital.”
However, Deverakonda feels curbing a songwriter’s exuberance is not ideal. “It is a bit inconvenient. But right now that’s how things are. My producers and I felt it is better not to hurt anyone’s sentiments right now. Sadly, this was my first attempt at singing on screen, undertaken because my production house and director were insistent. I just decided to do it for kicks. I know I have a limited range. And unless I take singing lessons, I doubt I can do better than this.”
