Cop story Satyabhama fails to pack a punch

Cast: Kajal Agarwal, Naveen Chandra, Prakash Raj, Harshavardhan and others

Director: Suman Chikkala
Rating: 2/ 5 stars
Pretty actress Kajal Agarwallooks fit and showcases her fiery side but she couldn't salvage a contrived terror plot. Although she starts off as SHE team head and punishes cyber bullies harrassing women, the story losses sheen after she follows the kidnap of her friend's brother which turns into an endless and tiring journey even for the audience. She has to bust terrorist plans who are planning a blast. Even her personal love story with novelist Naveen Chandra and their marriage doesn't have enough space to hold audience interest. So we are left with her professional life, but it revolves around a few individuals who are doctors too. Usually, cop stories ride on interesting crimes and novel investigations, rather Satyabhama fails on both counts.Meaelnwhile, a politician' son who is a gamer is caught in a web while Kajal is busy finding clues to trace down sleeper cells. She daringly moves into terrorist hideout and smashes a few goons mercilessly, yet the imaginary terrorist plans using gaming module doesn't involve audience and it fails to pack a punch. Kajal Agarwal should have chosen a better script for her maiden female oriented film.
The film begins with novelist Naveen Chandra saying that he is going to narrate the story of a woman who is mix of fiery Goddess Kalki and soft as Sita Devi. Naveen supports her and even excuses her when she turns up late in their marriage. She gives more priority to her job over family life. She is rough with criminals and beats them to pulp. When she handles a harassment case of a girl who is tortured by her husband, she gets close to her family and her brother too. When her husband kills her, she is disturbed. When the brother goes missing, she sets out to find him and detects a terror plot. Will she succeed?
Kajal Agarwal does a decent job and impresses in kick butt action episodes. However, she took a big chance and did a film without songs and comedy. We have to see, how it works in her favour and justify her muscle flexing act. Naveen Chandra and Prakash Raj go through the proceedings. While Harshavardhan's performance is just ok.
Director Suman should have blended the personal and professional lives of an upright cop in a more engaging and interesting way. He totally relied on investigation process over plot and believed that his twists and turns in screenplay would be enough but he would realise his mistakes sooner than later since contrived plot is not gripping enough and lacks emotional connect.
