Music director Ilayaraja is back in the news yet again for a legal issue. The Maestro sent a legal notice to the makers of Manjummel Boys for using the Kanmani Anbodu song without his permission. The film has made massive collections at the box office and is a blockbuster hit in the Malayalam film industry. The film happens in the Gunaa caves and the song is also from the same film from 1991, starring Kamal Haasan. It is Ilayaraja who composed the Kanmani song which added the soul to the film.
Ilayaraja asserted that he holds all legal, moral, and special rights to the Kanmani Anbodu song. In the statement that has been sent to the makers, it is written, "Our client reserves the right to initiate appropriate legal actions for the improper and unauthorised use of the song in the said cinematographic film, which is his original musical work."
The statement further said that the song was commercially exploited without paying any royalty or licensing fee to the music director. At the same time, with all that is happening, the counsel has called upon the film's producers to either remove the song from the film or compensate the ace music director.
