Kajal triggers hopes for woman-centric films?

With woman-centric movies like ‘Geetanjali Malli Vachindi’ and ‘Sabari’ failing to set cash registers ringing, Kajal Aggarwal’s ‘Satyabhama’ has triggered some hope for female-centric movies in Tollywood. The film is slated for release on June 7. “The film has been sold for over Rs 2 crore plus for some areas in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and discussions are underway for a few major centers soon,” says a distributor, who claims lady-oriented movies are having a tough time. “Kajal’s presence and big promotions by Balakrishna are helping the movie to trigger hype around the cop story’ he adds

Initially, Satyabhama’ was finding it hard to find buyers. “Of late, female-driven movies are not selling like hotcakes,” he says and adds, “Kajal’s popularity and craze have come in handy for producers to clinch few deals,” he adds. Already, ‘Satyabhama’ has reportedly breached the Rs 10 crore budget and it has to make it up with theatrical and digital rights. “Digital rights are a bit conducive too,” he points out.

No doubt, it could be good news for makers of other female-oriented films like ‘The Girlfriend’ starring Rashmika and Samantha’s movie ‘Maa Inti Bangaram’ and could revive the sagging fortunes of women-centric movies in Tollywood.
