Lagadapati Sridhar wanted to remake Premalu in Telugu?
Leading Telugu producer Lagadapati Sridhar wanted to remake Malayalam blockbuster ‘Premalu’ in Telugu with his son Vikram since he liked the new-age romance very much. “It’s a cute and charming love story which would definitely strike a chord with south film viewers since it is bereft of so-called Malayalam nativity,” says Sridhar, who watched the film along with his wife. “We thought of remaking it with Vikram since we were looking for such a heart touching romantic tale for a long time. Later, I dropped the plans as I heard that it is being dubbed into Telugu,” he adds.
He wishes good luck to Rajamouli’s son Karthikeya who is releasing the dubbed version in the two Telugu states. “With Rajamouli's branding, the film is bound to grab attention and mileage in Telugu states and is expected to draw crowds too. I am happy for Telugu audience who are going to watch a movie loaded with delightful moments,’ he informs.
He claims that remaking Malayalam movies has become very difficult these days due to OTT platforms. “Unlike in the past, remaking Malayalam movies has become difficult these days. Since most of their films are making waves in theatres and then on OTT. By the time it is being remade in Telugu, most of the audience would have watched it. For instance, the Hindi remake of Malayalam film ‘Driving Licence’ failed to impress in Bollywood because the original Malayalam film with Prithviraj Sukumaran rocked the digital space,” he concludes.
