Monday test for Kalki as it fetches Rs 85 cr share

The much-hyped ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ had a four-day weekend and made some money but it will be tough in the coming days. “Monday collections and response will be crucial for such big budget films,” says a distributor who adds, “The film has fetched Rs 85 crore plus share for the distributors in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and has a long way to go, he adds. He claims that Prabhas starrer has been sold for Rs 170 to 180 crores in two Telugu states and now, the real collections count begins and few sleepless nights too,” he points out.

Prabhas has a legion of fans in Telugu states and they could have made it a winner if they had thronged the theatres in big numbers and changed the game, but the sci-fi thriller didn’t excite some of them. “They were expecting Prabhas to don a larger-than-life role and make mincemeat of his opponents by flexing his muscles quite often like in his previous action movies,“ he explains and elaborates, “So, the action thriller couldn’t draw repeat audience and some fans were disappointed with no-songs format and even the comedy by Brahmanandam looked forced and dented the entertainment quotient and failed to draw in more numbers.”

If more promotions are made this week, the story which is a blend of mythology and science fiction could do well and help recover big investments.
