Puri Jagannadh Reflects on Arrogance Amid Career Scrutiny
He also emphasized the importance of self-awareness and accepting criticism

Ace director Puri Jagannadh has opened up with a reflective and hard-hitting pep talk on arrogance through his latest podcast, striking a chord with listeners at a time when his career is under scrutiny.
In his recent musing, he spoke about how sudden success often alters a person’s behavior. “When someone achieves quick success, their attitude and style change. They may start looking down on others, and even family members notice this shift. While others perceive it as arrogance, the person often mistakes it for confidence,” he observed.
Puri went on to draw a clear distinction between confidence and arrogance. According to him, confidence is rooted in belief in one’s abilities, whereas arrogance stems from ego—even when success is limited. He added that, at times, arrogance is a mask for insecurity, with individuals projecting themselves as more important than they actually are.
He also emphasized the importance of self-awareness and accepting criticism. “We need to identify our flaws and learn from feedback. As long as we have money and success, people surround us with praise. But when failure hits, they distance themselves. In such times, arrogance makes us feel betrayed, rather than introspective,” he said.
Concluding his note, Puri highlighted that respect cannot be demanded but must be earned through personality and conduct. “Arrogance becomes a barrier—it distances us from people, understanding, and growth,” he remarked.
Interestingly, while his thoughts have been widely appreciated, many are still curious about the status of his long-delayed project Slumdog, reportedly featuring Vijay Sethupathi, which is yet to see the light of day.
