The much-hyped 'Simbaa' starring Anasuya Bharadwaj which got released on last Friday turned out to be damp squib. "Anasuya who is very popular on TV wit shows like 'Jabardasth' and also doing key roles in big films like “Pushpa series’ couldn’t draw even bare minimum collections, which is quite unfortunate,” says a top distributor who adds, “She could have promoted the film aggressively and drew in crowds but she didn’t do it and eventually collections in theaters are merely Rs 1000 to 2000,” he adds
He cites the example of Tamil star Vikram, who is visiting Hyderabad and Vijayawada to promote his film ‘Thangalan’, while our actors are not so forthcoming. “Even superstars are promoting films and visiting varied places and the likes of Anasuya have to change their strategy about promotion since audiences are depleting in theaters in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” he adds.
In the movie, Akhila (Anasuya), a dedicated teacher and caretaker for her disabled husband, is thrown into chaos when she suddenly murders a stranger. "She did a good job and was good in action sequences but the crowds weren’t impressed and didn't throng theatres. Of course, the film also had Jagapathi Babu and Vasishta Simha and others, ,” he concludes.
