Suriya has earned a reputation for taking on challenging and varied roles.

After portraying a local deity Karruppu Swamy in the recently released Veerabhadrudu, Tamil star Suriya is reportedly set to surprise audiences once again with a grounded and relatable character in his upcoming Telugu film Viswanath & Sons. Directed by blockbuster filmmaker Venky Atluri, the film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14.
“Suriya has always been known for choosing diverse roles, and he is set to do something completely different in this film,” says a source close to the project. “He has previously appeared in Telugu films like Raktha Charitra, where he played a fierce and revenge-driven faction leader. This time, audiences will see a much more emotional and family-oriented side of him.”
According to industry insiders, Viswanath & Sons revolves around family relationships and emotions, with Suriya reportedly playing a young father. The actor is paired opposite Malayalam actress Mamita Baiju, and the film is said to feature an unconventional love story intertwined with the bond between a father and a young girl.
Following the success of Veerabhadrudu in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where it reportedly performed well among Telugu audiences, expectations are high for Suriya’s next outing. “The success of Veerabhadrudu has strengthened Suriya’s market in the Telugu states. Now, he is looking to build on that momentum with a wholesome family entertainer,” the source adds.
Over the years, Suriya has earned a reputation for taking on challenging and varied roles. He played a man suffering from memory loss in Ghajini, a smart smuggler in Ayan, a fearless police officer in the Singham franchise, and a principled lawyer in Jai Bhim. He also won widespread acclaim for portraying an underdog who builds an airline in Soorarai Pottru.
