After failing to impress with "Gangs of Godavari," young actor Vishwak Sen picks an interesting plot –on cyber fraudsters- but by making it ‘hero-centric’ and adding fights and songs to dilute the seriousness of relevant and topical online scams. This is where Telugu makers take the wrong step and turn every story into star-driven and then sideline the story they choose. With the treatment being clichéd and lackluster as the screenplay is loaded with hero introduction, fights and love and his issues with dad but nothing sticks with the audience. Whereas, the key story about people being defrauded by nameless and unknown criminals who threaten and blackmail gullible people over phone and loot money is just confined to few scenes and one where a police officer explains to hero and heroine Meenakshi Chaudhury, how it has become difficult for cops to track faceless criminals. Director Ravi Teja should have handled his novel idea more realistically and convincingly, rather than relying on done-to-death commercial tropes.
Initially, the hero is pitted against a gangster who wants to usurp his garage and then he is pushed into an online scam and he flexes his muscles too. Neither his love story with Meenakshi Chaudhary lacks enough depth, while his new mission goes for a toss and sounds just passable, which should have otherwise been more gripping. Interestingly, talented Shraddha Srinath impresses in a grey role after doing goody-goody stuff. Even the jokes by Harsha and others are mostly stale while a few twists the director was baking on, doesn’t hold water.
The film begins with Meenakshi Chaudhury walking into her house and is unhappy with her brother. But the family is shell shocked as he hangs himself to death. Now, Vishwak Sen is introduced in the car garage and his tiffs with his father(Naresh) become a bit too common. Viswak narrates his story of a girl (Shraddha Srinath) who was a college student but was poor in academics and forced to become a car mechanic. Also tells about his love (Meenakshi) and her brother being his friend. But when he loses his father, local goon (Sunil) threatens to take over the garage, Vishwak Sen is annoyed and assures to pay him a big ransom? Will he be able to do that?
Vishwak Sen is doing different roles like Aghora in ‘Gaami’ and ruffian kind of role in ‘Gangs of Godavari’ and again plays a mechanic but this role is quite typical. Meenakshi Chaudhury looks pretty and impresses in a self-piteous role. Shraddha is surprised, while Harsha and Harshvaran and Naresh are just ok.
