An Instagram reel is going viral on social media, claiming that Aadhaar cards will be invalid after June 14 if cardholders do not update their details.


Investigation: Upon reviewing UIDAI's X account, we found a tweet stating, "UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2024; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on the myAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar."

Verdict: False

Fact: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has clarified that Aadhaar cards will not become invalid after June 14. Cardholders can update their details free of charge if they haven't done so in the last ten years. After June 14, updates can still be made, but a prescribed fee will apply. UIDAI confirmed that Aadhaar cards remain valid regardless of whether updates are made, countering any claims to the contrary.
