Fact Check: Kavitha did not request govt. to include velamas into BCs category

Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha did not request the State government to include ‘velama’ community into Backward Classes (BC) category.

Demanding 42 per cent reservation for BCs in local bodies’ elections and implementing Kamareddy declaration, Kavitha chaired a BC Mahasabha meeting under the aegis of Telangana Jagruthi at Indira Park on January 3, 2025.

Stating that the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy betrayed the BCs, she demanded that the State government render justice to them. A news report was reportedly published in Way2News website stating that Kavitha demanded that the State government include the velama community into BC-A category as 90 per cent of the community members were reeling below the poverty line.

If Revanth Reddy failed to take necessary steps in this regard, she would observe an indefinite hunger strike at Indira Park. The report was circulated on various social media platforms.

But after a detailed examination, Factly.in found that Kavitha did not make those remarks demanding the State government to include vemalas into BCs, in spite of searching thoroughly on the internet for such information and reports.

At the same time, the Way2News website did not publish the report and the website clarified the same on its Twitter account and made it clear that some persons used its format and spread false news.

A live telecast of the meeting aired by a vernacular news channel was also examined and yet those remarks and demand made by Kavitha was not found.
