Farmer lynched, police ignore his calls for help

Hyderabad: A 40-year-old farmer was beaten to death by his neighbours over a land dispute at Chinaporlam village in Narayanpet district, the Utnoor police said. Irate villagers staged a protest after the police brought the victim’s body to the village.

The deceased was identified as Sanjay, a resident of Chinaporlam. Sanjay had called the police on 100 but they did not arrive in time. Even though a complaint had been lodged a month ago, police failed to register a case.

On Friday, the neighbours attacked Sanjay and he sustained serious injuries. Family members shifted him to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Based on a complaint, police registered a case and conducted a postmortem. Later, they shifted the body to his village to hand it over to his family. Villagers staged protests against the callousness of police.

Multi Zone -II IGP Sudheer Babu on Friday issued orders suspending Utkoor SI for neglecting his duties. It has come to the notice of the IGP that Bijja Srinivasulu, the station house officer, exhibited gross negligence and misconduct by failing to provide an immediate response to a complaint at Utkoor police station.

Disciplinary proceedings against Srinivasulu are being contemplated. After careful consideration of the material and the circumstances, Bijja Srinivasulu has been placed under suspension.
