Kid of Greyhound who died in Naxal attack seeks to follow father's legacy

Hyderabad: The family of B. Susheel, who served as Junior Commander in Greyhounds and was awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) posthumously after dying in a fight with Naxals in 2018, is yet to come to terms with his loss, even as his elder daughter, Sushika, wishes to continue his legacy and join the police force.

After his death, his wife Sushma was given a job as a junior assistant. Sushika is a Class 3 student, while her younger sister, Sushali, is in UKG.

Sushma told Deccan Chronicle that her husband being awarded the medal is an honour for his services to the nation and its people, even at the cost of his life. “Although it's an irreparable loss for the entire family, we feel proud of him and his life,” she said.

She said that Sushika was a toddler when Susheel was killed and recalled that her daughter’s last memory of her father was a phone call a day before the incident. “It was Holi and he enquired with her about how she played Holi,” said Sushma, who currently works at the Government Junior College in Jinnaram of Sangareddy district.

Sushma said that Sushika was already taking steps to fulfil her dream. “In line with her dream, she is learning karate. She is already a brown-belt holder and is now preparing for the black belt,” Sushma said.

“While Sushika has a bundle of memories with her father, Sushali did not see him as I was pregnant with her at the time of Susheel’s death,” she said.
