CPM has more trouble brewing in Malabar over cadre action
Kozhikode: The meeting convened by the CPM Koyilandy area committee on Friday to report the decision to suspend N.V. Balakrishnan from the primary membership of the party for one year ended in a fracas with a section of members opposing the decision. A few members also tried to manhandle Koyilandy area secretary K.K. Mohammad, said sources.
Out of the 17-member area committee, seven are supporters of Balakri- shnan. K. Santha, wife of Balak- rishnan, chairperson of the CPM-ruled Koyilandy municipality, declined to comment on reports about her resigning from the post. “I have not thought about resignation at the moment,” she told DC.
The meeting held at the Chethuthozhilali Union office was attended by 141 members of the branch and local committees coming under the Koyilandy area committee. The meeting ended abruptly after 20 minutes.
The Koyilandy area committee had decided to suspend Balakrsihnan, a former secretary of the area committee, on Thursday for allegedly writing an article in an evening daily published from Bahrain criticising the party for withdrawing the secretariat siege in connection with the solar scandal.
