Chennai: The Southern Bench of the National Green Tribunal, Chennai, on Friday directed the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) to file a comprehensive report on packaged drinking water units in the state, adjourning the matter to January 7.
The counsel for the South India Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers’ Association submitted that out of 869 units 60 had not sought the PWD’s consent.
Meanwhile, the counsel for the Central Food Safety and Standards Authority of India submitted that 60 units dealing with flavoured and herbal drinking water units had sought its approval, but it had rejected their applications since they were incomplete and some invalid.
The authority has sent a notice to the units. The bench has summoned PWD officials in connection with the matter pertaining to herbal packaged drinking water and posted the matter to Wednesday.
