KSEB carves out 16 new electrical sections
Thiruvananthapuram: The KSEB Limited has carved out 16 new electrical sections, four divisions and two circles out of 55 existing divisions and 23 circles to provide speedier and effective service to consumers.
Over 600 new jobs will be created. The new arrangement will reduce the crowd of consumers within a section and will bring section offices closer to consumers making it easier for them to secure services and get their complaints redressed.
In the 16 new electrical sections, 512 new recruits will be required for various posts from assistant engineer to electrical worker. The four new divisions and two circles will necessitate the absorption of 90 personnel in various positions from assistant administrative officer and office attendant.
The new circles, Nilambur and Harippad, have been taken out of Manjeri and Alappuzha. “Of the 23 circles, Manjeri and Alappuzha were the most crowded. They had more than five lakh consumers each and were also spread over a wide geographical terrain,” a KSEB Limited source said.
Further, four new electrical divisions – Kondotty, Wandoor, Pattamby and Kattakada – were added to the existing 55. The creation of new circles and divisions was the result of two exigencies: burgeoning consumer strength and troublesome terrain.
“There are a number of cases, especially in the more populated interiors of the southern region, where the pulling of new lines and the installation of transformers have become difficult because of the hard terrain and the shortage of staff,” a source said. The new sections will be formed out of the existing ones in such a manner that the consumer numbers in each section are brought within manageable limits.
For instance, the new section in Enathu (Pathanamthitta) will be formed by upgrading the Enathu sub-engineer office and by transferring 5,530 consumers from Kadampanadu section, 2,330 from Adoor and 1720 consumers from Pattazhy.
