A weighty issue

Vishnu Raveendran believes that one’s looks and appearance has nothing to do with popularity and success.

“I am in good shape. That shape is round and I am happy,” beams Chumma fame actor Vishnu Raveendran who believes that one’s looks and appearance has nothing to do with popularity and success. 23-year-old Vishnu has four movies in his kitty and says that his extra weight is his USP!

“Many say that our appearance reflects our personality and ‘being fat’ is uncommon. I would be happy if I could carve a niche exclusively for me in Malayalam film industry, like Jean Black who is one among the popular overweight actors in Hollywood,” says the actor.

The bon vivant is one of the lead characters in 'Monnayi Angane Aanayi' which will be released in February. “I am very excited about my role in this film. Working with Aju Varghese, Bhagath Manuel and Har­i­krishnan was fun.”

A mime project during his high school days opened up the world of acting to this engineering graduate. The amiable entertainer says that he always knew that he would be a misfit in a white collar job. “I was confused after my graduation. That is when I got an offer to assist and act in the TV sitcom — Chumma. My character Ne­eraj in Chumma clicked. Now, I know this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.”

Vishnu who has made cameo appearances in Dulquar Salmaan’s forthcoming multilingual film Shut up and Talk and Sajan Johny’s Just Married He appears in the opening sequence of Shut up and Talk. “I was over the moon when I heard about my role in Shut up and Talk. The film begins with my shot and the whole movie revolves around a question that is raised in my character’s mind.”

The chubby actor, who weighs more than 220 pounds, is now acting in Joshy John’s 'One Second Please'. “I do not want to be type casted. I want to explore my acting skills by taking up different kinds of roles. How about a chubby and naughty villain?” asks Vishnu with a laugh.
