Meerut (UP): A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped several times by her father, following which she became pregnant, police said on Monday.

The matter came to light when neighbours noticed that the girl was seven months pregnant and enquired about her, police said.

The victim told them that her father had established physical relations with her and threatened her not to reveal about it to anyone, they said.

The girl, accompanied by her uncle, lodged police complaint against her 40-year-old father on Sunday, on the basis of which a case of rape was lodged against him, they said, adding that the accused is absconding.

According to the girl's complaint, her father forced her into having sexual relations with him and threatened to kill her if she told about it to anyone, police said. He also did not allow her to leave the house, but neighbours noticed that she was pregnant and asked about it, following which she told them about her ordeal, police said.

The victim's statement would be recorded and her medical examination would be conducted after which she would be brought before a court, they said. SSP Omkar Singh refuted reports that a local Panchayat had asked the victim to live as the accused's wife and told them to leave the village.

Seoni (MP): An agriculture extension officer, who is convicted of rape, was arrested from here for allegedly murdering the victim last year, police said on Monday.

The accused Ratan Thakre, posted as agriculture extension officer at Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh, was apprehended yesterday after evading arrest for nearly two months, they said.

Thakre was last year convicted by a local court in Madhya Pradesh and sentenced to three years imprisonment for raping a woman at Kaamta village some ten years ago.

He challenged his conviction in the high court and the case was pending, police said.

According to police, Thakre was pressurising the victim for compromise and allegedly killed her using a sharp-edged weapon on November 16, 2013, after she refused his proposal to settle the case.

Medininagar (Jharkhand): A girl was stabbed eight times by a youth, who was out on bail after having been jailed for stalking her last year, at Darul village in Palamau district today, police said.

"Md Ansari was re-arrested after he stabbed the girl eight times when she resisted his advances," Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar Singh told reporters.

Ansari was on bail after being arrested and sent to jail for allegedly stalking the girl last year on basis of the girl's complaint with the police. The seriously wounded girl has been referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, police added.

But when she refuses to come with him even after that, he kills her.

According to the police, Tannu Chawla (27) and Yogesh (30), both residents of Mehrauli, were arrested yesterday by the staff of Central District police for allegedly killing one Neha who worked as a sex worker at G.B Road under Kamla Market police station.

"Last Tuesday, one Sarfaraz, who is the caretaker of brothel house No-57, told police that in the morning when he reached the brothel, he observed that one girl Neha was not present. On inquiry, he came to know that on the previous night she went to a room with a customer and had not been seen thereafter," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Alok Kumar.

On this, he checked the room and found her lying in a pool of blood. A police team reached the spot and found the body of Neha in a room on the first floor of the brothel.

After inspection of the body and the scene of crime, a case was registered and investigation was taken up, he said.

During investigation, it came out that the customer, who had accompanied the deceased last night, was her regular customer and the deceased used to talk to him on cell phone which was recovered from the spot.

Howrah (WB): The headmaster of a primary school in Howrah district was arrested today for allegedly sexually harassing a woman teacher of the same school for three years, police said.

The woman in her FIR alleged that the headmaster of Gayespur Primary School in Domjur had been sexually harassing her for the past three years, additional SP Sukhendu Hira said. It was learnt, that the duo had an altercation over the issue on Saturday, following which the teacher lodged the FIR.

Bangalore: A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped while she was on her way home from school in Electronics City police limits on Saturday afternoon. The rapist repo­rtedly took her to a desolate place after muffling her screams by gagging her with a piece of cloth.

The girl, a second standard student of a private school on Begur Road, is the daughter of a private trading company employee and a housewife. Her elder brother is a SSLC student of the same school. The family resides at Akshaynagar, Begur Road.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4.30 pm. Police suspect the miscreant followed the girl while she was walking home after class, and waited for an opportune moment to gag her and drag her into a dilapidated building, where he must have raped her.

The suspect later allegedly blindfolded her with a piece of cloth and left her on the Begur Main Road, around 6.30 pm, and fled. The girl is said to have made her way home in a state of shock.

Her parents noticed her bleeding from her private parts and asked what happened. However, the girl was reportedly too traumatised to explain anything.

“She insisted that she hurt herself on an iron rod, and also told her parents that the blood could have been from a broken blister on her skin. Her parents realised something was wrong and rushed her to Akshaya hospital, where doctors confirmed she had been raped,” said a senior police official.

“We are waiting for the girl to come out of shock and talk to us so that we can get a complete picture of what happened. Several teams of three policemen each, have been formed to scour the areas surrounding Begur to catch the suspect,” the official added.

The victim was later shifted to St John’s hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment as an in-patient, and is expected to be discharged in a few days. State Home Minister K.J. George visited the victim at the hospital on Sun­day and assured the family that the Government would cover the medical expenses.

Deputy Commissioner of police (South East) T.D. Pawar told Deccan Chro­nicle, “We suspect that only one individual committed the rape. So far, nobody has been taken into custody, but further investigations are on.” A case of rape has been registered with the Electr­onics City police.

Chennai: Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for the alleged sexual abuse of his own 11-year-old daughter on Sunday. Muruganandham, a resident of Ramadas Nagar in Kaatupakkam was arrested by the Poonamalee police on charges of child harassment.

According to the police, Muruganandham, a private firm employee had allegedly abused his 11-year-old girl on Friday, when she was alone in the house.

The girl, in turn complained to her mother who complained to the police on Saturday. Poonamalee Police have registered a case and have arrested the man.

Hyderabad: A youth was arrested for allegedly molesting his minor cousin at their house in Jillelaguda in Meerpet. The victim and the accused’s mothers are sisters, and they stay in the same house.

The accused, Yadagiri, 25, used to work as a labourer. He was married but is separated from his wife. Yadagiri's aunt is a beggar at a temple, and his mother maintains the shoe depository there. Both of them leave in the morning and return only in the evening. The other siblings are also busy with their work.

Inspector P. Sreedhar Reddy said that on Thursday morning when everyone had left for work, the victim, who studies at a local school and the accused were alone, and that he tried to make sexual advances. The girl got scared and ran out of the house. She also stopped going to school, the inspector added.

On Saturday, when her mother asked her to go to school, she refused, and later revealed what happened. “She immediately approached us. The victim lodged a complaint.

We recorded her statement and are verifying facts,” said SI G. Satyanarayana. Based on the complaint a case under the Criminal Amendment Act, 2013 was registered against Yadagiri, and he has been arrested.

Chittoor: The staff on duty at the TTD run guest house at Talakona were beaten up by some tourists late on Saturday night.

Bangalore IT engineers Bharath, Alex, Prithizin, Mazumdar and Mohan came to the Talakona guest house and took two rooms posing as locals of Tirupati on Saturday afternoon. The group left the guest house after a while, returned drunk, and started creating a ruckus.

TTD employee Sankaraiah and security guard D. Balakrishna objected citing the ban on liquor in TTD guesthouses. This led to an argument and the visitors bashed them up.

The youths also damaged the window panes and furniture at the guesthouse. The staff fled to save their lives. later, they approached locals and the petty vendors of Talakona and also informed the police about the attack. Before the police reached the spot, the locals of Talakona reached the guesthouse and took on the visitors, injuring them seriously.

Meanwhile, around midnight police reached the spot, took the visitors into custody and shifted them to the Yerravaripalem police station.

Alex, Mohan and Bharat who were seriously injured in the attack by the locals were shifted to the Piler government hospital for treatment. On Sunday morning Yerravaripalem in- charge SI Nettikantiah reached the police station to probe the incident.

TTD assistant executive officer Ramesh Babu ame to Yerravaripalem and lodged a complaint. The visitors also lodged a complaint reggarding the attack on them. They said that a laptop, five mobile phones and a gold chain belonging to them were seized by the attackers.

Yerravaripalem SI Nettikantiah said that both the complaints were received, and a case has been registered.

Hyderabad: A construction executive was chased, beaten up and handed over to police by the public at KPHB on Sunday morning, after he allegedly tried to kiss a girl on the road after following the autorickshaw in which she was traveling in.

The accused, R. Srinivas, 38, a resident of Nizampet, followed the girl on his bike, and threw flying kisses at her repeatedly, and when the autorickshaw halted for a few seconds, he tried to kiss her sitting on his bike.

Though Srinivas fled from the spot, the girl raised an alarm. Hearing this, the public chased and caught hold of him. Later, he was brought to the Kukatpally police station.

As per the victim’s complaint, who is a graduation student, she was returning from a place of worship in Alwyn colony to her house in the morning.

She said that Srinivas started following her on his bike after she got into an autorickshaw. He drove parallel to the vehicle and harassed her continuously with offensive gestures.

“When the autorickshaw reached a spot near Patelkunta, it halted for few seconds. Then he tried to kiss her,” said a police official from Kukatpally.

Soon the girl raised an alarm, Sridhar drove away from the area. However, some locals chased him a few kilometers and caught him neas KPHB and roughed him up briefly. He was taken to the police station as the victim insisted.

“The victim has lodged a complaint in our police station regarding the issue. We booked a case against the accused for outraging a women’s modesty and arrested him,” said Kukatpally inspector Chandrakanth. Police said that they will verify if Srinivas was involved in similar cases in the past.

Hyderabad: A probationary DSP and six other policemen were injured in an attack by villagers, when the police party arrested smugglers of illicit liquor. The incident took place on Sunday near Nagarkurnool in Mahbubnagar district.

Acting on a tip off, probationary DSP Masum Basha, and a team of six cops reached Alipur on Sunday and laid a trap. They succeeded in arresting one Ramulu, while he was transporting illicit liquor on a bike to Nandivaddemaan.

Police seized the liquor and his cellphone. Later, they arrested another transporter. When the villagers came to know about the arrests, around 25 youth came on bikes and attacked the cops with sticks. The mob was led by Polkempadu sarpanch’s son, Tagore. The DSP jumped onto a bike and reached Alipur village.

As the information reached Nagarkurnool, police teams reached the spot. They arrested three of the attackers and destroyed liquor bhattis. Police have registered several cases under relevant Sections of the IPC. The DSP was admitted to a hospital.

Chennai: An unidentified person attempted to break into a public sector bank located at Mylapore on Saturday night, around midnight.

However, the attempt was thwarted after the landlady, a senior citizen who stays above the bank, raised an alarm and the burglar fled the place.

The police said the Indian Bank branch located on Santhome high road in Mylapore functions out of rented premises. On Sunday around 12.30 am, the landlady, Saraswati, 72, who lives on the first floor above the bank, was woken up by loud sounds emanating from inside the bank.

Alarmed, she informed her relatives, who in turn contacted the police control room. She also raised an alarm alerting the neighbours, the police said.

By the time the Mylapore police reached the place, the burglar had fled. Investigations reveal that he entered the building by breaking the grill at the back of the building and had tried to break the locker, but in vain.

No valuables were stolen from the bank, police sources said.The bank’s security guard sitting in the front claimed to be unaware of the sounds, they added. The police have recovered a hacksaw blade that the burglar had used, from the scene.

“We suspect it to be the act of a single person. He tampered with the CCTV there, so there was nothing much available from the footage,” a senior police official said. However, the police are going through the old footages from the camera to identify any suspicious persons.

Based on a complaint from bank manager Thiyagarajan, the Mylapore police have registered a case and are investigating.

Madurai: An ongoing stand-off between two gangs of ganja peddlers ended up in two men belonging to one gang being bombed to death by members of the other group during a ‘peace meeting’ on Saturday night in Yagappa Nagar, in Madurai. The deceased were identified as Kannan, 26, and Udayakumar, 28, of Sowrashtra Colony.

The police said the two had hacked Senthil Pandi of the other gang a few days ago, over a tussle in their ‘areas of operation’.

Senthil Pandi returned from hospital after treatment two days ago, and along with his friend Murugan, who runs a lathe shop, invited the rival gang for a peace meeting, saying that they should stop fighting with each other and find a peaceful solution to the problem.

The peace meeting, which started with alcohol, took a bloody turn as the rivals again started fighting. Within no time, the meeting venue turned into a battleground with both sides attacking each other.

The Senthil Pandi gang had kept country-made bombs ready with them and four bombs were hurled at the opposite side. “Two of the bombs exploded and Kannan and Udayakumar died on the spot while three others suffered injuries,” the police said.

The police suspect that Senthil Pandi and Murugan had planned the peace meeting with a view to eliminate their rivals. They said they were on the look-out for Senthil Pandi and his associates in connection with the murders.

Chennai: A man jumped to his death in a mall at Royapettah on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Nakul Kaul, 25, a native of Assam, who worked as a security guard. On Sunday, around 8.20 pm, he went up to the third floor and jumped to the lobby of Express Avenue mall.

Though he was immediately rushed to the Royapettah government hospital, the medical team declared him dead on arrival. This is the second case of suicide inside EA in the last six months.

Dowry toruture: 20-yr-old hangs self

Bangalore: Unable to bear with dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws, a 20-year-old woman killed herself by hanging at her residence in Rajanukunte police limits on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Lakshmi, a native of Bangalore. Police said Lakshmi had married Anjiappa (35), a florist, and had shifted into his residence in Kondashettyhalli in Rajanukunte four months ago. However, she was reportedly depressed by her husband's and in-laws' constant harassment for dowry.

Around 9 am on Sunday, when Anjiappa had left home, Lakshmi allegedly hung herself from the ceiling fan in their bedroom. The incident came to light when her in-laws broke open the door after failing to get any response from her.

She was rushed to M S Ramaiah hospital, where she succumbed around 4:30 pm. Based on a complaint given by her parents, a case of dowry harassment has been registered against Anjiappa and his parents and they have taken into custody. Further investigations are on.
